Sebago Shoes

The launch of Sebago...

In 1946, the journey of the Sebago brand began in Maine, founded by Daniel J wellehan Snr., William Beaudoin and Joseph Cordeau. The nearby Sebago Lake in this wooded state was the inspiration behind
the brand name, meaning, "big stretch of water" in the Indian Abenaki language, and so began the brand's strong affinity with water.

Since 1946, Sebago have been famous for their immaculately constructed deck shoes, the shoe specifically designed for sailing.

Over the years the brand has developed their relationship with the ocean, and together with Sebago's commitment to the craftmanship of their designs, they have become a highly regarded shoe brand in the yachting world. The classic moccasin construction featuring leather woven through non-corrosive brass eyelets around the heel is reminiscent of the portholes and rope around a boat, and the sturdy rubber non-slip soles make the shoes a perfect practical choice for the deck.

Sebago's popularity

Sebago deck shoes were worn by the media mogul, Ted Turner, who was an intense ocean racer and awarded the Yachtsman of the Year award on four separate occasions. The quality of the Sebago shoe was reinforced and thrust further into the spotlight by this master of sailboat racing, and the popularity of these durable, stylish, boating shoes soared to further heights.

Hand-crafted Stunning Workmanship

The hand-sewn, beautifully finished boating shoes will be available at Zee & Co, in five different styles. All made from top quality leather or nubuk, the designs available include the fringed tassled loafer in black & brown, and the famous penny loafer, designed around the famous quip, "put the penny in your shoe, and good luck will come to you". These loafers were much favoured by the Ivy league (East Coast Upper Society), and found the fashion spotlight around the time when Elvis's 'Blue Suede Shoes' delivered the rock 'n' roll notion that teenagers could rebel aginst parents through fashion statements.

The durability and quality of Sebago shoes is still prevalent today, and as the brand has moved through the years it has been equally loved by each generation. The preppy styles of Sebago are available
globally in 85 countries, and the popularity of this much-loved brand still grows today.
