The man's hat had it's heyday in the first half of the last century. From 1900 until 1950 almost every man in the western world would wear a hat on a daily basis. Photographs of crowds in the early 20th century show just how wide spread the fashion was.

After the second world war the hat fell out of favour, with few people wearing them other than for specific reasons at work. With the growth of youth culture 1950's onward, fashion changed, the hat had all but disappeared.
