Modern men's underwear can be traced back to 1930's America. The first garments were the iconic Y- fronted underpants, which became known as the 'Jockey', taken from the jock strap, an athletic garment worn by sportsmen for support. The boxer short also first appeared around the same time, based on a loose fitting short worn by boxers.
