Casual Wear

Casual Wear

Jeans and a T-shirt have been adopted as the casual 'uniform' worn since the middle of the last century. Originally created by the rise of youth culture and a general liberalisation of attitudes, the move towards an ever more casual, relaxed attitude to life and clothes in particular, has taken over in fashion. Although originally it was only the teenage market that adopted this look, it is now common to see both a grandfather & grandson out together both in T-shirts & jeans.

Increasingly Popular Casual Look

Once the move to a more relaxed form of dressing had started, it became like a runaway train; more exiting garments found main stream popularity in the new exploding casual wear market. Leather motorcycle jackets became fashion statements, sweat shirts & track suits moved from the training ground to the bar, and trainers were re-invented to the point where they have become the most popular type of footwear ever.

The growth of casual wear has caused some confusion in dress codes. Before the Second World War it was easy to classify a man by the clothes he wore; so for example suit and tie at work would be middle management up. Nowadays it is far more common for most of the workforce to adopt the same casual approach to dressing; from the Managing Director to the tea boy every one will be in different variations of casual.

Top Designer Infiltration

The universal acceptance of the casual dress code in almost all situations has led to the emergence of the high profile Designer Brands. Wearing a shirt and tie might no longer send out the right signals, socially or even at work, but wearing the right brand, combination of brands, or even look, can send out a powerful message about you, and where you're at. Having said this, the main reason for buying clothes is the enjoyment that wearing them gives. So if you want to wear that bright red hoody into the board meeting, go for it!
