Founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, expanded from an established shop in 1920 that sold fine leather goods with classic styling in Guccio's hometown of Florence, a city distinguished for high-quality materials and skilled artisans, the company went on to include stores in Milan and Rome as well as additional shops in Florence. Gucci's stores featured such finely crafted leather accessories as handbags, shoes, and his iconic ornamented loafer as well as silks and knitwear in a signature pattern. The brand was then established in 1921, with three of his sons.
Movie stars posed in Gucci's clothing, accessories, and footwear for lifestyle magazines around the world, contributing to the company’s iconic growing reputation. Fast forwarding a few years the brand is now parented by French holding company Kering a world leader in apparel and accessories that owns a portfolio of powerful luxury and sport and lifestyle brands.
In December 2014 Marco Bizzarri was appointed CEO of the brand and Alessandro Michele became Gucci's Creative Director from January 2015 who has redefined luxury for the 21st century ensuring the clothing, leather good and accessory products represent the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship and are unsurpassed for their quality and attention to detail, he continues to steer Gucci's vision through an elegant approach.
