Stone Island was launched in 1982 by legendary Italian designer Massimo Osti, the influential creative force behind C.P. Company. The Stone Island philosophy has always been about experimentation and innovation in fabric, design and dyeing processes, and their look is influenced by functional clothing such as military-wear, work-wear and sportswear.
Stone Island Inspired By Military Designs
The first collection was inspired by a heavy duty military tarpaulin fabric which Osti used to create his first range of hard-wearing outerwear. Following the immediate and enthusiastic response to this collection, Osti went on to develop many innovative processes and fabrics throughout his career, including garment dyeing, high-performance rubberised fabrics and thermo-chromatic fabrics which alter their appearance in response to changes in temperature. These still form an important part of the Stone Island collection.
Stone Island Leaders in Research and Innovation
This obsession with research and innovation is the key to Stone Island’s continued and growing success. Every design is a true original, and is produced with individually numbered garments to ensure their authenticity and exclusivity. The Stone Island compass logo is now a bona fide fashion icon.
