McQ Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen is known for both the emotional power and raw energy of his shows as well as the romantic but contemporary nature of his collections. Integral to the McQueen culture is a profound respect and influence for the arts and crafts tradition. McQueen’s collections combine an in-depth working knowledge of bespoke British tailoring, the fine workmanship of the French Haute Couture atelier and the impeccable finish of Italian manufacturing.

A very British designer

Alexander McQueen worked his way up through the fashion world in a very British way, starting as an apprentice on Savile Row at the age of 16. With a career encompassing theatrical costuming, traditional British tailoring and finally a Masters degree in fashion design, McQueen eventually founded his own label, establishing a name for himself almost immediately with his razor-sharp tailoring and eye-catching contemporary classics designs. January 2006 heralded the birth of McQ by Alexander McQueen, a superb denim-based ready-to-wear line.

The Alexander McQueen legacy

McQueen was a dynamic force in the fashion world, creating masterpieces for celebrities from Cameron Diaz to Lady Gaga. His sudden death in February 2010 shocked and upset fans all over the world. Robert Polet, Chief of the Gucci Group, spoke with McQueen prior to his death, when the two men agreed that the McQueen label had acquired solid brand recognition that went beyond the name of the designer.

“That will be my legacy”, McQueen said, according to Polet, “that's something I will always leave behind”.

The McQ by Alexander McQueen label has continued to produce stunning collections season after season, worthy of the man himself. It is truly a legacy to be proud of.
